Kurta Set Fabrics Explained: Cotton, Georgette, Chinon, Tissue and Organza

Cotton, georgette, chinon, tissue or organza? How each fabric feels, where to wear it and how to care for it, so you choose the right kurta set for the occasion.

Updated 2 Nov 2026

Two kurta sets can look alike in a photo and feel completely different on a long day. The fabric decides how cool you stay, how the outfit moves, how dressy it looks and how you wash it. Here is a plain guide to the fabrics you will find in our collection.

Cotton

Feels: soft, breathable and cool; gets softer with every wash.
Wear it to: work, college, everyday errands, daytime pujas and family visits.
Look for: handloom cotton for texture, and printed cotton such as Ikat and floral prints for colour.
Care: usually a gentle machine wash or hand wash in cold water; dry in the shade to keep colours bright.

Cotton is the best choice for Indian summers and long days. See our cotton kurta pant sets and the office edit.

Mul Chanderi

Feels: very light and slightly sheer, with a soft sheen.
Wear it to: smaller festive functions, office celebrations and daytime events.
Care: a gentle hand wash or dry clean; handle embroidery with care.

Chanderi is dressier than cotton but almost as comfortable, which makes it ideal when you want to look festive without feeling dressed up.

Georgette

Feels: light, slightly grainy and very fluid; it drapes and flows beautifully.
Wear it to: weddings, receptions, festive evenings and parties.
Care: dry clean embellished pieces; plain georgette can often be hand washed gently.

Georgette is the classic fabric for Anarkalis and lehengas because it moves when you walk and dance. See our Anarkali suits and lehenga sets.

Chinon

Feels: soft and smooth with a gentle sheen, a little heavier than georgette.
Wear it to: festive functions, sangeet and evening events.
Care: dry clean is safest.

Chinon holds colour richly and drapes well, so it suits flared frock suits, palazzo sets and draped co-ords.

Tissue

Feels: light and crisp, with a natural metallic shimmer woven in.
Wear it to: festivals, mehendi, sangeet and evening functions.
Care: dry clean; store folded in a soft cloth.

Tissue gives you shine without weight, which is why it works so well for sharara sets and light lehengas. See our festive outfits.

Organza

Feels: sheer, crisp and airy; it holds its shape.
Wear it to: weddings, receptions and daytime festive functions.
Care: dry clean; avoid crushing it in storage.

Organza is often used for sarees, dupattas and lehenga skirts, where its structure gives a beautiful flare. See our sarees.
