How to Choose Your Lehenga Size
How to measure yourself for a lehenga at home, read a size chart, choose between two sizes, and when to pick a custom fit instead.
Updated 2 Nov 2026
A lehenga is three pieces, a blouse, a skirt and a dupatta, and each one fits differently. The good news: you only need a measuring tape, five minutes and someone to help, and you can order the right size online with confidence.
What you need
- A soft measuring tape (a tailor's tape, not a metal one).
- A mirror, and ideally a friend to measure your back.
- The undergarments you plan to wear with the outfit, so the blouse measurements are right.
The four measurements
1. Bust
Stand straight and measure around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape level across your back. The tape should sit snugly without pressing in.
2. Waist
Measure around your natural waist, the narrowest part of your torso, usually a little above your navel. Breathe normally; don't hold your breath in.
3. Hip
Stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat.
4. Length
For the skirt, measure from where the lehenga will sit at your waist down to the floor, wearing the shoes you plan to wear. Heels can add 2–4 inches, and a lehenga should just brush the floor.
Reading the size chart
Product pages on Myira have a Size chart link next to the sizes, with an inch/cm switch. Compare your measurements to the chart in this order:
- Bust first. The blouse is the hardest piece to alter, so match it first.
- Then waist. Many lehenga skirts have a drawstring or an adjustable waist, so there is some room here.
- Then hip, for fitted or mermaid styles. Flared lehengas have plenty of room at the hip.
Between two sizes?
- Choose the larger size if your bust is between sizes. A blouse can be taken in by a tailor, but very little can be let out.
- Choose by bust for the blouse and by waist for the skirt if your measurements fall in different sizes. In a set, the bust usually matters more.
- Flared, A-line and Anarkali styles are forgiving. Fitted corset or mermaid styles need a closer match.
When to choose a custom fit
On styles that offer it, choose Custom fit on the product page to have the outfit stitched to your own measurements. It's worth it when:
- your bust and waist sizes are two or more sizes apart;
- you are taller or petite and the standard length won't work;
- you want a closer fit for a fitted or corset style.
Custom-fit pieces are made for you, so they are not returnable for a change of mind. If one doesn't fit as you ordered it, we offer free alterations.
