Diwali Outfit Ideas for Women

Diwali outfit ideas for every part of the festival: the puja, card parties, family dinners and visits. Colours, fabrics and complete looks, from easy cotton to festive lehengas.

Updated 2 Nov 2026

Diwali is not one event but several: cleaning and shopping in the days before, the Lakshmi puja, lighting diyas, visiting family, card parties and long dinners. One outfit rarely suits them all. Here are ideas for each part of the festival.

Diwali colours

Traditional Diwali colours are warm and bright: red, maroon, gold, mustard, orange and pink. Deep green, royal blue and purple look rich under diya light, and pastels with gold or silver work look fresh and elegant for daytime visits. Many people choose something new for the Lakshmi puja; in many homes it is considered auspicious.

For the Lakshmi puja

The puja is usually at home with family, sitting on the floor, often near diyas and flames. Choose something traditional, comfortable and safe:

  • A kurta set with a dupatta in cotton or Chanderi. Our buti embroidered kurta set in mustard, or an Ikat-print kurta pant set, are easy choices.
  • A saree if you like a classic look. See our embroidered sarees.
  • Keep the dupatta pinned or light, and avoid very flowing synthetic fabrics near open flames.

For family visits and lunches

You will be in and out of homes all day, so pick something that is festive but comfortable:

  • Printed cotton Anarkalis in floral prints feel festive and stay comfortable all day.
  • Kurta and palazzo or sharara sets look dressy and are easy to move in.

For card parties and Diwali dinners

Evening parties are the time for shimmer and statement pieces:

  • A sequin or embroidered lehenga set. A black lehenga with multicolour sequins stands out beautifully against the lights. See our lehenga sets.
  • A draped co-ord set for a modern, cocktail-style Diwali look. See our co-ord sets.
  • An embellished Anarkali or a party wear gown. See our party outfits.

Accessories

  • Jhumkas or chandbalis with simpler outfits; small studs with heavily embroidered necklines.
  • Bangles, glass or metal, for the puja.
  • Juttis or block heels: you will be on your feet greeting guests.

Order in time

Festival weeks are busy for couriers everywhere, so order as early as you can. Check the size chart on each product page before you order. Delivery is free over ₹1,999, with 7-day returns on standard sizes.
